Avoid wear and tear

Old-fashioned but essential

Use a shoehorn!

Nowadays, it is not really in our habits, nor in our uses, to use a shoehorn.
Yet it's the easiest way to protect the toe box and the slide (you know, that area in the back that tends to get crushed by the heel when we put on our shoes).
Not only will a shoehorn allow you to put on your shoes faster, easier, but it will also prevent potential tearing and premature wear of this area by avoiding your heel rubbing on the leather.

We've got some!
Did you know that?

Do not wear it everyday!

To maximize the lifespan of your shoes, avoid wearing them every day.
Leather is more durable if it has time to rest for at least one day. You'll also allow the shoe to wick away any moisture from sweat or rain that it may have absorbed.
Shoe trees can help speed up this process. However, don't place them next to a heat source, as this will dry out the leather.

If you can afford it, invest in at least two pairs to alternate wearing!

Is that really useful?

Keep your shoes in shape!

Shoe trees are a luxury you should give your shoes.

You'll quickly see the difference between a shoe that is stretched daily with shoe trees and one that is left unsupported.

Not only does the raw wood shoe tree absorb moisture more efficiently, but it also prevents excessive walking creases and early deformation of the shoe.

Warning: do not think about putting anything else in your shoes to stretch the leather.
If the creases look smooth, you risk deforming the inside of the shoe. Be sure to choose shoe trees that respect their shape.
Pied de Biche shoe trees are specially designed for this purpose!

However, if you tend to change your shoes regularly before they even become deformed, there is no need to invest in a pair of shoe trees!

So, do you need shoe trees?
It is!

Is that possible to resole?

Even if you have put on a protective pad and an iron, you are not safe from the fact that your soles wear out.
A particular gait, repeated abnormal rubbing, or an accidental tear can lead to completely resoling the shoe.

Even if your soles have holes or are really worn out, don't throw your shoes away!
Resoling is a common operation, often less expensive than another pair of shoes.

If you have taken good care of your leather and the upper is perfect, it would be a shame to give up on that pair of shoes because of a worn out sole...
